Ok this was fun! And a whole lot like Glee with performers giving it 100% in a shopping mall!
Its a strange story how I ended up shooting here. The previous evening, Love Mae and I were in a local hot spot where a band asked a young lad called Rocky to come up on stage and sing with them. When they started playing the classic Freddie Mercury "Too Much Love Will Kill You", I fully expected a bad to awful version to be heard. I was wrong. Very wrong! Rocky can sing the same range as Freddie Mercury with similar ease! I could feel the hairs standing up on my arms at the top notes and all I could think about was adding him to my collection of music videos here. I spoke to him when he came off the stage and we exchanged details.
The next day he had seen our website and he sent me a text saying he was in this "talent show" in the mall. Again, I feared the worst but, again, I was wrong! The show was well staged by Philippine TV5 and was part of their "Talentadong" TV program which is based on Britains Got Talent. Well, all I can say is Philippines Got Talent too! However, Rocky showed up in what I will call "casual clothing" with a big number pinned to his chest! I told him this was not the sort of video I had in mind and said I would take a few still shots and we would arrange another nighttime gig for a video.
You would have thought I would have had enough of being wrong but no, I just had to record his audition and I am very glad I did! The lad is a real trooper and despite all the disturbances to his performance, he just kept singing! The show was presented by two of TV5's very entertaining "ladies", one of whom I did not get the name of but the other is the very bubbly and smiley Wilma Doesnt :-) They messed around with his audition so much but I'm sure this was because from the first few bars they knew he would be going through! I also met Paulo, a writer with TV5 who I hope to meet again sometime. I am available to hire ok! :-)
The other gallery here is the video of Rocky when the presenters got him to sing a love song as one of them pretended it was his birthday and flooded him with "gifts" - these were various items of peoples shopping!! I think the video is a great record of this moment in a young mans singing career that he will greatly enjoy looking back on in a few decades! Whatever it takes to get noticed is definately worth doing!
I will forever claim that I found this talent before this TV show did - by one day! :-)
ENJOY!
