Welcome to the first of our monthly newsletters. These are intended to record our life here in the Philippines in both text and images so that anyone who is in the slightest bit interested can see what is going on in our lives - even if we are a very long way away! It will also serve as a photo diary to remind us of everything we do here and when we do it!
Rather than say too much in long reams of text above a stack of images, it is probably best that we put an outline here and then give some information about what is seen in the images at the foot of the images.
We flew here from Heathrow Airport on the 1st May 2011 via Dubai, Brunei and Manila. our stopover in Dubai was a blink of the eye but the stopover in Brunei was so long that we were almost entitled to citizenship! For the 4th wealthiest nation in the world they certainly do a great job of hiding it! We only found one building that seemed to display some wealth but other than that, not a sausage! The locals are tiny. I mean very tiny. It seems you are in a nation of children! I doubt we will be returning for any reason or travelling that route again!
We stayed over in Manila for one night with a very hard working Doctor Merly then off to Cagayan De Oro, (CDO) the aptly named city of golden friendship. We went straight to Iligan, about 90 minutes away by airconditioned bus and just far enough to see all of an excellent pirated version of a yet-to-be-released blockbuster movie! We stayed in our preferred pension house (bed & breakfast/hotel) "Famous" whilst visiting Love maes family and friends for a week. We then moved on to CDO where we planned on setting up home. This is a summary of the rest of our month:-
Moved here to Cagayan De Oro (CDO) on Mindanao (min-da-now), a major city where the airport is located that we flew into.
After one night in a hotel we quickly found a small apartment big enough for us and our four cases.
Bought a new Yamaha YBR 125 to allow us to travel anywhere to locate (i) land for development, (ii) a home and (iii) a river to establish a kayak club.
Began searching for temporary accommodation for us and all our “containered” belongings in a gazillion boxes from the UK arriving in June.
Began searching for land and/or a house to modify/extend to begin our property development business.
Found a house to buy but after beginning the purchase process we lost confidence in the seller for moving goalposts so ended the deal.
Found another house and began the purchase.
Now for the piccies!
Addendum - I found a few images from our DSLR cameras and have added these at the end. Hope you enjoy the improved quality and composition of some of those :-)
