The Bedford Arms - 13th June 2010
No, this is not a gallery of simply vintage music stuff. Vintage Stuff is the very apt name of the awesome rock and roll band featured below! (Website at http://www.vintage-stuff.co.uk) My old pal Dick Spencer, who I recall singing some very mellow songs back in the 80's, now belts it out with all his might (and that is considerable as he is a strapping chap!) for the pleasure of all who hear him - and that would be anyone withing a country mile of where the speakers are! The man can sing! But lets not let this larger than life front man steal all the limelight! The 5 super talented musicians with him were simply brilliant! You could close your eyes and immediately think you were actually at a concert from any one of a dozen original bands. With the Roland keyboard set to a mode of "extremely plinkity plonk" to get that real piano sound, more drums and symbals than you would find at the all American Marching Band Finals and three properly seasoned Guitar Hero rockers perfectly selecting 16 strings on some very cool instruments, you would need to go a very long way to hear better vintage rock and roll. If these guys were a tribute band they would be equivelent to the label that says "one size fits all" in a pair of Spandex knickers! To use a totally inappropriate term, in todays languge of the yoofs..."they are sick!"
Unfortunately, the problem of the focus not locking in on the 5D2 has come back to haunt us again and virtually all the images I took with it tonight were not the ones I wanted! The ones I wanted were never captured as the blummin' thing just would not fire! Grrrrr! Its going back! Both Love Mae and I then turned to the ultra reliable workhorse that is the 40D to capture some great shots that both of us wanted! Not enough light for ant videoing. I did record a bit but it was too grainy to bother with. I think that for venues like this one, The Bedford Arms, Bromham Road Bedford, it would be a good plan to stick 2 or 3 PAR64 cans in the truck and politely ask the performers if its ok if we illuminate them for our own needs! The super nice staff at The Bedford Arms saw no probs in doing this so there is a 100% chance we will be going back!
Special thanks to my other old pal, Steve Buckley for mentioning this gig to me on Friday. We had a blast! Hopefully my ears will stop bleeding soon.....
ENJOY!
