CHANGE OF ADDRESS
We concluded that if you have decided to move home, and if you are going to the trouble of carefully wrapping up all the fragile stuff, boxing everything up, putting blankets on all your furniture etc, etc, then you may as well make the whole shenanigans of moving worthwhile and move as far as possible to get best value! So we are off to the Philippines to live.
Love Mae has been in the UK for six and a half years now (I have been here slightly more!) and that is long enough for her to agree with me that we need to move to a place where living is easier, problems are fewer and you have more time and more disposable income to allow you to ENJOY being ALIVE! It seems this society has fallen into ”living to work” rather than the original “working to live” culture and as we do not see this changing we need to go where it still exists. A place where, after work, you can relax, hook up with family and friends, fire up the barbeque, sing and dance and generally enjoy what you have been working for.
We will miss the personal company of our friends here of course but, thanks to the trusted internet, we will still be able to chew the fat, see each others smiley faces on Skype and keep up with all the gossip – we just won’t be able to hug and kiss. But in the main, none of us would like that anyway!
Our door will always be open to you all. Having said this, we still need to actually decide upon the property that has that door but this should be known within a month of our arrival. So, to avail yourself of this over generous offer, invite yourself, buy a £400 return fare, put a pair of shorts and a tee shirt in your pocket and “come on down!” Oh! And of course, “Don’t forget your toothbrush!”
For the kayaking and canoeing fraternity, by the time you get here I should have found some decent white water to establish my canoe club on in the form of an eastern division of Viking Kayak Club. Bring a floppy hat, a dollop of sun cream and a long sleeve rash vest for an exciting river trip in 30 degrees, very downhill and through the coconut trees!
Hopefully we will be able to undertake a little property development to generate a few Pesos. This aspect of my life here has, in recent years, been filled with frustration and disillusionment due to a broken planning system where planners have become designers and designers have become nothing more than pencils to be pushed around. So no more of that nonsense for me. BRILLIANT! Look out for some pent up creativity coming to a plot in the Philippines soon!
We are not allowed to take vehicles so all our wheels are going to stay here where they will not, actually, be missed very much. With a taxi charging about 40 pence across town and an air conditioned bus to anywhere at £1 per 50 miles, I will enjoy being driven around.
Our schedule is now sorted with our container going out on the 27th April and our flight on the 1st May. We are pretty much boxed up and ready so if anyone wishes to pop round on the morning of the 27th and assist us with moving it all into the 20ft container, please let us now! We have a 4 hour slot so a few pairs of hands will mean we can take it a little easier and make sure it’s properly secured!
This does not leave too much time for our individual goodbyes so we will try and organise something like an open house one day and you can just pop in when it suits you. To be advised as we are still rushing round here of course. Not sure if we will have anywhere to sit, anything to eat from or drink out of but we will try to sort something out.
In any event, here or there, we are always here online and will be recommencing our photography as soon as we can. Looking forward to having so much light to play with in the Philippines! So expect more images like those below as we update you all with how our lives are going here. No guarantees in anything that we are doing but we reckon it is better to regret something you did rather than something you didn’t! So let’s see how it goes!
ENJOY!
Peter & Love Mae
