Calaanan Camp 5 - May 2012
The Elmer Francisco Foundation (eFF) distributed 250 school bags with school supplies this morning from Vineyard Foundational Learning Center at the Calaanan Relocation Camp 5. This is where 125 families that were victims of the Sondong tropical storm last December have been rehoused.
Elmer invited us along to capture the event and we were so pleased we went along to see so many people benefiting from the Foundation and also to see so many wonderful smiles too!
The children were amazing. They were all so beautiful and so very happy, and yet with so little. I personally continue to learn from such events and from meeting such people that true happiness is not to be found in material possessions but in love, friendship and family. The reason that these children were so excited about the material possessions being given to them is because they constitute almost a basic need to allow them to be properly equipped to attend school and to learn. Children here love to learn and are thankful that they are able to attend school.
Love Mae has very few images of herself from when she was a small child, and certainly none of the quality we are able to produce now, because of her similarly deprived and humble background. Through her, we both understand the importance for people to be able to own and enjoy childhood pictures, not only for themselves but for the generations that will follow them as well. It is for these reasons that Love Mae and I propose to obtain prints of these images and to return to camp 5 to distribute them to those seen in them. We consider this is a very small but very beneficial type of charitable act that we are so happy to provide for these wonderful families. God bless you all and also all those involved in Camp 5 and this thoughtful event.
ENJOY!
