1st CDO International Motor Show
(Please Note! The images in this gallery are only 1/4 size images. However the first image here is full size. Please allow a little time for this one to load up when you select "original" size.)
Well done Elmer Francisco! Elmer did a great job of organizing this event, the very 1st Motor Show here in CDO.
Motor shows here are quite different to the UK. The event starts as early as Thursday evening and ends on the Monday! I left the venue in the small hours of Monday morning after dealing with a stream of owners and fans who were interested to see and purchase our images.
If you are a western/European/American/UK custom car, hot rod, street rod or modified car enthusiast, please do not expect the volume of vehicles nor the quality of materials or workmanship to be that which you may be familiar with. I must defend your filipino counterparts here as they experience great difficulty in obtaining parts, tools and experience. But what they do with the limited resources here is quite remarkable. Things like paint and upholstery is as good as western vehicles and the audio systems are actually better! The chrome is not so good, nor the preparation of the materials prior to chroming nor the welding. They do like wheels though! Shiny large ones especially. And many motoring items here are very expensive, more so than in the west. Some of the vehicles are as clean as when they rolled off the production line many years before so the attention to detail when preparing a vehicle is great. It is, in fact, called "detailing" here.
No chance of getting beautiful backdrops here like we are used to so we shoot them where they stand as best we can. Virtually all of these images were tripod mounted with some exposures up to 25 seconds in the dark. As the sensor is gathering data I walk around with a white or gold hand held LED light to bring the colours out and to remove any harsh shadows. I love the "Wow!" that is heard from the small crowds gathered behind me as they see the camera LED light up after capturing the image to show a version of a vehicle that you can hardly see in the dark with the human eye :-) The Canon 5D2 is brilliant in low light :-)
This gallery has all the vehicles and there is another gallery containing all the vehicle owners, officials, hospitality girls (with a few leg shots to break the monotony of metalwork!) and members of the public.
WE were very pleased to contribute PHP100 to Elmers charity box for the Sendong victims for each and every sale we made - every little helps so a big thank you to all who liked our images so much that you purchased them :-) If anyone else wishes to purchase any, please send us an email and we will sort this out for you :-)
Finally, a personal thank you from me to everyone who I spoke with during the event as you were all really nice people to chat to and deal with. Love Mae and I hope we get to see you all again in an around the city - and at the next motor show of course!
Enjoy the images,
Peter & Love Mae
